NTT Global hosted a Build-A-Bike® charity team building activity in Tempe, AZ as part of a three-day leadership offsite. While the group was smaller, with 12 leaders in attendance, the focus was big. The team had recently gone through a global expansion and needed a way to get everyone aligned. Instead of sticking to meeting rooms, they added a hands-on session designed to get people working together in a more practical setting. By the end of the activity, the group had built four bikes for local children.

NTT Global Leaders Strengthen Collaboration at Build-A-Bike® Team Building Activity in Tempe, Arizona
With just 12 leaders involved, the Build-A-Bike® session felt more like a working lab than a large group event. Everyone had a role, and there was no room to sit back and observe. Teams got started quickly, working through clues to unlock the parts they needed. The smaller size meant conversations stayed direct, and decisions happened fast. People who hadn’t worked closely before were suddenly troubleshooting side by side.
The dynamic shifted throughout the activity. Early on, teams tested different approaches, but it didn’t take long for a rhythm to develop. Ideas moved quickly, and communication became more natural as the builds progressed. The competitive element kept things interesting, but the real focus stayed on getting each bike finished as a group. By the time the final pieces were in place, the team was operating much more in sync.
The wrap-up brought in a local connection. The bikes were donated through the YMCA, and Senior Program Director Nick Nigh attended with four kids to accept them. Seeing the recipients in person added a clear, real-world outcome to the session. The group could connect their work directly to who would benefit from it, which made the experience feel complete.
