Build-A-Bike ® is the original bicycle team building activity benefiting charity. In fact, Build-A-Bike ® started a trend where annual meetings and conventions often, now, include a huge philanthropic component. It makes a lot of sense. Back in 2005, the very first bicycle team building activity was conducted in Dallas, Texas. After this first event, we knew that this was something really special. Doug Staneart, CEO of The Leader’s Institute, was there.
“We really had no idea how the group was going to react to completing ‘manual labor’ for charity, so we made sure to make the activity competitive and really fun. Once the last team completed assembling the last bike, we had a stream of young kids come rushing into the room, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the place,” says Staneart.
Since that very first Build-A-Bike ® event, Staneart and The Leader’s Institute ® have delivered over 2000 events worldwide and donated over $3.5 million dollars in bicycles to youth charities.
