Wells Fargo organized a charity bike build at The Westin Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 21, 2026. Six hundred new hires and analysts divided into 100 teams, competed through team challenges, assembled 100 bicycles, and donated them all to Trips for Kids Charlotte. The 90-minute event was the centerpiece of Wells Fargo’s annual New Hire program.
Wells Fargo is one of the largest financial services companies in the United States, with more than 70 million customers across banking, investment, mortgage, and consumer finance. Their New Hire program connects incoming employees to one another before their careers officially begin.
600 Wells Fargo New Hires Build 100 Bikes for Trips for Kids Charlotte at The Westin
Six hundred people in one ballroom is a logistical challenge. Wells Fargo solved it by dividing participants into 100 teams, each working through structured challenges in parallel. The format meant every one of the 600 participants stayed active from start to finish, no passive stretches, no one waiting on the sidelines.
The challenge rounds required teams to communicate immediately and trust new colleagues fast. For a group that had just met, that pressure was the point. New hires who were strangers at the start of the afternoon were coordinating and competing by the first challenge. The competitive structure kept energy high across all 100 teams simultaneously, a difficult thing to sustain at that scale.
Bicycle assembly was where teamwork became visible. Each team had to coordinate every step of the build process. Miscommunication created delays; clear communication created momentum. By the end, 100 fully assembled bicycles were ready for Trips for Kids Charlotte, a nonprofit that gives young people in the Charlotte area access to cycling, recreation, and outdoor adventure. The donation turned 90 minutes of competition into something lasting for the community.
