We had a blast delivering a fun bike building team activity in Austin, Texas for Forte this week. Forte is a non-profit organization that helps develop the next generation of women leaders in the workplace. They help their members from diverse backgrounds, industries, and career stages unite to shake up the status quo. Their mission is to launch women into fulfilling, significant careers through access to business education, professional development, and a community of successful women.
They certainly portrayed that mission in their team activity as well. These folks are all about helping others. It is what they do every day. But to make the activity more fun, we had divided the group into teams. Then, we had each team compete with each other to earn each bike part. The competitive juices were flowing through the room as each team got closer and closer to receiving that elusive last part.
Their Effort Was Rewarded When the Boys & Girls Club of Austin, TX Arrived!

Just as the group tightened the last bolt on the last bicycle, Monica Balderas from the Boys & Girls Club of Austin arrived to accept the bikes on behalf of her kids. “Over 70% of the kids in our club have had at least one parent who has either lost a job or lost income as a result of the Covid Pandemic,” she said. “As a result, many of these kids have a sad outlook for this Christmas. Your donation of these bikes is a Godsend for many of these children.”
There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when she finished.
Thanks to Forte and the Boys & Girls Club for a very memorable (and emotional) Build-A-Bike event in Austin, Texas!
