Arch Insurance Starts Internship with Bike Event in New York City

Arch Insurance Starts Internship with Bike Event in New York CityThe Arch Insurance Group summer intern program had a different kind of morning planned. Eleven interns gathered on a rooftop deck for a charity bike build event in New York City. The format gave them a chance to connect while doing something real for the community. The wind made a few things more difficult and provided everyone with a good laugh. By the end, the group had donated bikes to the Salvation Army. A representative came to the rooftop to accept them, and the whole group walked the bikes over together.

Arch Insurance Interns Start the Summer with a Charity Bike Event in New York City

Eleven people who had not spent much time together yet walked onto that rooftop and quickly found a common ground. The competitive format helped. When everyone is working to earn bike parts and nobody has an advantage, titles and backgrounds stop mattering quickly. The team challenges brought out the kind of focus and good humor that tends to emerge when a group is figuring something out under pressure together.

The rooftop setting was a bonus. Most interns do not spend their summers building bikes for charity in the open air with views of the city. That detail made the morning memorable in a way that it would not have been in a hotel ballroom or a conference center.

When the bikes were done, the Salvation Army representative accepted the donation right there on the roof. The whole group then walked the bikes over to the Salvation Army’s nearby building together. That final walk turned a standard close to the program into something more tangible. The donation was not a line item at the end of the event, it was a physical act the whole group took part in.

Big thanks to Arch Insurance Group for building time into their intern program for an experience like this. And to the Salvation Army, thank you for coming to receive the donation and for the essential work you do in New York City.
