Woodard Events amplified their Scaling New Heights Conference with a charity bike build in Orlando, Florida. Forty accounting professionals volunteered for the activity, competed through team challenges, and assembled 12 bicycles for the M Family Foundation. It was the second year running that the conference had included a Build-A-Bike® event.
Woodard Events produces the Scaling New Heights conference, one of the accounting profession’s most recognized annual events. The conference brings bookkeepers, accountants, and technology consultants together each year for professional development and peer connection. Woodard has served the accounting community for over two decades.
Forty Accounting Professionals Volunteer for Orlando Youth at Charity Bike Build in Orlando, Florida
Voluntary participation is a gift to an event like this. The group that showed up had already answered the most important question, they wanted to be there. What followed was exactly what you’d expect from forty people who made an active choice.
The competitive structure fit the group well. Accounting professionals are precise by trade. They notice when a step is out of order and they fix it. Those tendencies carried into the bike-building challenges. Teams that communicated clearly and stayed organized moved ahead. The others found their rhythm and closed the gap.
The energy built as the afternoon moved. A general atmosphere of camaraderie settled into the room as the work progressed. These were people who shared a profession, shared a conference, and now shared an afternoon of focused effort. The connection formed in that context is different from what happens in a breakout session.
The M Family Foundation received all 12 finished bikes. Their representative described what those bikes would mean for children and families in the community. For a group that came to Orlando to talk about accounting software and professional development, leaving with that kind of contribution behind them is not something most expected. That’s part of why it works.
