Mortenson hosted a bicycle charity team building activity for 25 leaders in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The group gathered at Mortenson headquarters for a two-day leadership experience, with the Build-A-Bike® session serving as the grand finale. After a full schedule of meetings and discussions, the team wrapped things up with a hands-on challenge that got everyone involved. The goal was to focus on collaboration and communication while also giving back, and the group came ready to do both.

Once the Build-A-Bike® challenge kicked off, the room shifted gears quickly. Teams jumped into action, dividing up tasks and figuring out the fastest way to get their bikes assembled. Some groups took a structured approach right away, while others figured things out as they went. Either way, everyone stayed busy moving between challenges, tracking down parts, and keeping their builds on track.
The smaller group size made the competition feel tight. Teams kept an eye on each other’s progress while making quick adjustments to stay ahead. There were plenty of moments where plans changed mid-build, followed by quick regrouping and a new approach. The headquarters setting added a familiar backdrop, but the pace and energy made it feel like something completely different from a typical meeting space.
As the final bikes came together, the group lined them up for donation to ACES for Kids. The organization’s “Early, easy, awesome!” mission supports children through local programs, and a partner handled pickup directly from the headquarters. Seeing the finished bikes ready to go gave the team a clear sense of what they had accomplished together. It was a strong way to close out the two-day meeting with something both productive and memorable.
We thank Mortenson for supporting children through this Build-A-Bike® experience. We also thank ACES for Kids for their meaningful community partnership.
