Databricks Pedals Fun With a Build-A-Bike Event in San Jose, CA

Databricks Pedals Fun With a Build-A-Bike Event in San Jose, CA Early May mornings usually call for coffee. But on this particular day, Databricks reached for wrenches instead. Twenty-five team members gathered for a Build-A-Bike event in San Jose to build bikes, bond as a team, and sneak in some feel-good competition. By the time the final pedals were tightened, they had assembled four shiny bikes and a whole lot of team spirit.

Databricks isn’t just about data—it’s about driving innovation. Founded in 2013 by the creators of Apache Spark™, MLflow, and Delta Lake, the company builds platforms that make AI and analytics easier for everyone. From engineers to executives, they help users dig up insights faster than a caffeine-fueled intern on a deadline.

The morning kicked off with teams diving into the Build-A-Bike® challenge. Right off the bat, the group was alive. Laughing, getting creative, and collaborating like never before. And it didn’t take long at all before screwdrivers started spinning and laughter filled the room. Creative strategies unfolded—some more graceful than others. But with each misstep came a bigger laugh and stronger teamwork. By the end, the room buzzed with high-fives, friendly banter, and eight nicely secured wheels. When the final bikes were complete, they rolled them over to their new home: Redwood City PAL. This incredible nonprofit supports local kids, including families of migrant farmworkers. Tito Alvarez, community advocate and all-around good guy, accepted the bikes with a big smile and heartfelt thanks. Thank you to the fantastic folks at Databricks for blending tech smarts with big hearts. We also send appreciation to Redwood City PAL and Chase Love for their ongoing community work.
