Google Teams Build Bikes for Kids Facing Housing Insecurity in Mountain View, CA

For the final session of their October summit, Google employees put their teamwork skills to the test. They participated in a hands-on Build-A-Bike® challenge. Instead of debugging code, they tackled a different kind of puzzle—assembling four brand-new bicycles. The only algorithm that mattered was “put part A into slot B and hope for the best.”

Google appreciated that Build-A-Bike® provided a turnkey, hassle-free experience. It made it easy for them to focus on teamwork and giving back. Many assume Build-A-Bike® is designed for large-scale events. But its scalable structure made it the perfect fit for this group of 24. It ensured a smooth, professional, and rewarding experience.

With a mix of determination, laughter, and maybe a few YouTube tutorials, the teams powered through. They knew their efforts would bring joy to kids in need. The real reward came at the finish line. Seeing the completed bikes ready to roll into the hands of their future riders was priceless.

The newly built bikes were donated to Chase Love, in partnership with the PAL Center in Redwood City. These bicycles will be distributed to local youth during holiday drives in November and December. This ensures they have a reason to smile this season. Thanks to Tito Alvarez, the initiative brings together multiple organizations across San Jose and San Francisco. It helps support families facing hardship.

A huge thank you to Google for proving that teamwork isn’t just for the workplace. It’s for the community too! An extra round of applause for Chase Love, the PAL Center, and Tito Alvarez for their ongoing commitment. They help Bay Area youth. Because at the end of the day, building bikes is great. But building hope is even better.
