Western Municipal Water District brought 190 employees together in Riverside, California for a full day of team events for their company training day. For many, it was the first time they had all been in the same room. The morning kicked off with a communication and team culture workshop to help the group get oriented with each other. By the afternoon, everyone moved into a charity bike build that put everything they had just practiced to the test. By the time the day wrapped up, the group had donated bicycles to the Boys and Girls Club Perris Clubhouse. All 190 people went home feeling like they actually knew their teammates.

WMWD’s 190 Employees Finish Their Training Day with a Charity Bike Build in Riverside, California
The first half of the day was all about getting to know each other. A lot of these employees had only ever connected over emails and video calls. Walking into a room full of coworkers they had never actually met was a new experience. The Creating Team Culture workshop gave them a real framework for understanding how their teammates think and communicate. By the time the morning wrapped up, the group had already built a foundation that made everything that came next work better.
Then came the Build-A-Bike®, and the energy level went up immediately. Teams that had just spent the morning talking about communication now had to put it into practice while racing to build bikes under real pressure. People were loud, competitive, and completely locked in. The enthusiasm in the room with a group this size was something to see. Throughout the afternoon, the teamwork the group had developed in the workshop showed up in real time. The teams that communicated best were the ones setting the pace.
When the bikes were done, they went to the Boys and Girls Club Perris Clubhouse in Perris, California. The club gives youth in Riverside County a safe space to learn and grow. They help kids develop the kind of confidence and character that sticks. The team from the charity was organized and welcoming from start to finish. That made the donation a smooth and meaningful close to a long day. These 190 employees ended the day closer than ever before.
Big thanks to Western Municipal Water District for designing a day that was equal parts team development and real-world impact. And to the Boys and Girls Club Perris Clubhouse, thank you for being great partners. Everything you do for young people in Riverside County matters.
